Dear Green Club Members,

Last Friday (24th April 2009), Mr Randy Koo and 10 students went to Republic Polytechnic for the Green Audit Award Ceremony. In the year 2007/2008, we obtained the Sustained Achievement Award, the highest award for the Green Audit Programme (3 consecutive Lotus Award). Our vice chairman Sean Lim of Primary 5.4 received the award from Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon (Minister of State, Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports). Congratulation to all of us for a great job in spreading environmental messages to the school and the community.

Wee Jie Hao, our ex green leader, assisted Mr Joe Lim of the SEC in this event too. Well Done Jie Hao!

Today we commemorated Earth Day by having our very own Anderson Earth Hour. All electrical appliances were switched off from 12.45p.m. to 1p.m. and from 1.15p.m. to 1.30p.m. I had some photographs on this special moment under the " memories" section. Enjoy!

Dear Green Club Members,
Tomorrow is 22nd April. The whole world will be celebrating a very meaningful and important day - Earth Day.

Below is a brief account of the history of Earth Day.
In the Beginning...In 1963, former United States Senator Gaylord Nelson began to worry about our planet. (A senator is a person that the people of the United States have chosen to help make the laws.) Senator Nelson knew that our world was getting dirty and that many of our plants and animals were dying. He wondered why more people weren't trying to solve these problems. He talked to other lawmakers and to the President. They decided that the President would go around the country and tell people about these concerns. He did, but still not enough people were working on the problem.

Then, in 1969, Senator Nelson had another idea. He decided to have a special day to teach everyone about the things that needed changing in our environment. He wrote letters to all of the colleges and put a special article in Scholastic Magazine to tell them about the special day he had planned. (Most of the schools got this magazine and he knew that kids would help him.)

On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day was held. People all over the country made promises to help the environment. Everyone got involved and since then, Earth Day has spread all over the planet. People all over the world know that there are problems we need to work on and this is our special day to look at the planet and see what needs changing. Isn't it great?

One person had an idea and kept working until everyone began working together to solve it. See what happens when people care about our world?

On Saturday, 3 P6 Green Club members (Zane Chee, Keith Low and Colin Ng) did us proud by participating in the 7th National Environment Quiz. Although they did not win, we should applaud for their effort and enthusiasm. Well done boys!!!

At 8.30 p.m. on Saturday, 28 March 2009, people all over the world will turn off their lights for just one hour - Earth Hour - to show that by working together we can make a difference in the fight against climate change.

This year, Singapore is officially taking part in it alongside some 370 cities (not countries, apologies).

The Walt Disney Studios will celebrate Earth Day 2009 (April 22nd) with the debut of "Earth," the first feature-length nature documentary from its new production banner, Disneynature. This amazing new film is from award-winning British producer/director Alastair Fothergill, whose credits include the Emmy and Peabody award-winning "Planet Earth" series (BBC and The Discovery Channel) and "The Blue Planet."

So do consider doing our part to raise the awareness and fight climate change.

On the 6th March 2009, Our school was having our 10th Annual Sports Day. Our green club members were activitated to make sure the cleanliness of the stadium by advising our fellow friends not to litter. We were also employed to collect used plastic bottles for recycling. Overall I could say that we did a marvelous job. Well Done Team!!! You all are the best!!!

Due to the School Sport Day (6th March 2009) and Meet The Parents Session (13th March 2009), there will be no club activities for the next 2 Fridays. However, the Green Leader activities on Tuesday will be as normal.
